After a traumatic break up from his friends Kimo and Lopaka, Johnny Kaimana moves to Oahu, where he becomes roommate and lover to Alex “Aloha” Granger. Aloha is known as the music man as he sells CD’s of original Hawaiian music. When Kimo and Lopaka are looking for music for their wedding, they go to see Aloha and Johnny is there so they renew their friendship with Johnny and invites him and Aloha to the wedding.
Newly committed to each other, Johnny and Aloha struggle to move away from their sexual freedom that sometimes involved threesomes. Johnny attracts the attention of Mahini, a powerful Kahuna visiting from Niihau, the Forbidden Island. Mahini is obsessed with Johnny and puts a curse on him that causes Johnny to lose everything, almost to the point of death. The more powerful Kahuna Kimo comes to the rescue of first Johnny and then Aloha, who is the victim of a cop who obsessed with him.
The Forbidden Island is yet another exciting episode in the Phantom Lover series. Johnny is the former boyfriend of Lopaka. Johnny’s issues of not being able to commit to any one person is a wake up call for him in this episode and he learns how heartbreaking relationships can be if you are not both committed. Johnny and Aloha both learn the extremes obsessed unwanted lovers will take. The extraordinary A. J. Llewellyn produces another work of genius that transports you to the land of blended cultures, highlighting the passionate couples, and the mystical power of love and family. This is an incredible series that I enjoy immensely.
